Economics & Philosophy
Bachelor of Arts
Are you interested in economical topics - and you want to shape society for the future? Then the new Bachelor's degree programme in Economics & Philosophy is exactly what you are looking for! It combines philosophy and business administration and thus offers valuable interdisciplinary skills that are in high demand on the job market.
What kind of growth is possible within the limits of our planet? How can companies create jobs that make a good life possible? ChatGPT - Curse and Blessing: What rules do we want to give ourselves to remain human? Do we have to define the relationship between humans and nature in order to economise differently? If you want to change the world, you first have to understand it.
The Economics & Philosophy degree programme sets out to do just that, offering a scientific education that transcends disciplinary boundaries in search of new solutions to pressing questions. In this study programme, you will learn how companies operate - and where capitalism reaches its limits. You explore and expand what is thinkable and feasible. Furthermore, you will learn to question established concepts of economy(s) in society - critically, systematically and soundly with the means of philosophy.
Here you will study in small groups and have the opportunity for exchange and discussion in the seminars. The study programme is taught in German.
Special features
We teach you knowledge of business administration in all areas of sustainable business management (management, marketing, organisation, etc.). At the same time, you attend seminars in which you learn the fundamentals of philosophical thinking, reflect on influential and alternative concepts of humankind and the world, and work on current (business-) ethical issues. In this way, you learn to discuss economic challenges using a completely different perspective and logic.
Deliberately, our students also deal with artistic processes time and again. After all, economy and society are facing a variety of challenges. Therefore, new methods and creative solutions are in demand. But don't worry, you don't have to be artistically talented. But you should be willing to try out new things.
An essential component of all degree programmes at Alanus University is the interdisciplinary and cross-programme Studium Generale. Cultural and philosophical content encourages students to engage with social issues and forms the basis for their own positioning in social discourse.
At Alanus University, the topic of sustainability receives special attention. Many of our students and staff are involved in the Fridays for Future movement and are committed to climate protection and fair trade. Alanus University has been certified as a Fairtrade University since 2018.
